Caramel, Chocolate and Candy Apples

Halloween may fall on a weekday this year, but that’s not going to stop the celebrations! Most people will be celebrating this upcoming weekend and eSutras Organics has some great recipe ideas for the spooky holiday. Our advice is to ditch the sugar-saturated, unhealthy candy and try to substitute for a delicious and homemade treat!

                     Caramel, Chocolate and Candy Apples

(Serves about 6)
·         6 apples washed and de-stemmed
·         8 oz. of soft caramel candies
·         1/4 cup orange juice
·         4 oz. eSutras Organics  Seriously Dark Chocolate 73% Ultra Rich
·         2 tablespoons eSutras Organics Heart HealthyCooking Oil
·         Assorted small candies, chopped nuts and sprinkles
·         6 wooden sticks or skewers

1.       Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and coat with eSutras Organics Heart Healthy Cooling Oil.
2.       Insert sticks halfway into the stem-ends of the apples.
3.       In a medium sauce pan, over low heat, combine the caramel and orange juice. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the candies have melted and the mixture is smooth, about 10 minutes. Set aside to cool for 2 minutes. Dip the apples in the caramel until coated and put them on the parchment paper until firm, about 2 hours.
4.       Put the chocolate in a medium bowl and set it over a pan of barely simmering water. Stir until the chocolate is smooth and melted.  Drizzle the melted chocolate over the caramel. Put the apples back on the parchment paper for 10 minutes. Sprinkle with small candies, chopped nuts or sprinkles and allow the chocolate to harden, at room temperature, for about 3 to 4 hours.
All the kids in the neighborhood will go crazy over this awesome treat and parents will appreciate your healthy choice!

Bon Appétit!
